El primer paso es conocer las diferencias: el pasado simple es cuando la acción se ha terminado por ejemplo: Viví en Londres y el pasado continuo es cuando la acción no se ha terminado por ejemplo: estaba viendo la televisión cuando vino mi madre.
The first step is knowing the differences: past simple is when the action is finished for example: I lived in London and the present continuous is when the action isn't finished: I was watching the tv when my mother came.
In English there are two types of verbs: regular and irregular: Regular verbs are formed adding -d or -ed and the irregulars change the form. Here you can see an example of the irregular verb list.
