IRELAND - WHAT TO DO IN DUBLIN CITY

Before travelling to Ireland you should know that the island is divided in two different countries: North Ireland that belongs to UK and the Republic of Ireland.
The island is divided in four provinces: Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, and these four provinces are divided in 32 counties. Both, Ireland and UK are members of the European Union, as a consequence there is free movement of people across the border.

You will have in mind that the currency in Ireland is Euro and in North Ireland is pound sterling. So if you are thinking on travelling from Dublin to Belfast and surroundings you will need both of them.

What can you visit in Ireland????

When you arrive to Dublin you realize that the architecture is quite different to Spanish one.

Although Dublin is a modern city, with a financial area, it keeps the memory of old times; georgian houses, castles, old churches and celtic monuments are around the corner.

The city is divided in two by the river Liffey.

On the north of the city you can visit The Custom house and the famine memorial, the post museum and James Joyce sculpture, the old Jameson distillery and the National Museum Collins Barracks.

On the South side of the city it will be worth to visit: the trinity College (don't forget the Campanille and the library), Dublin city Hall, Dublin Castle, the Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick's Cathedral , St Stephen's Green and Merrion Square. Don't forget going to Guinness Storehouse, having a walk along the Quays and end the day in the Famous Temple Bar.

Try to find Oscar Wilde sculpture and read his most famous quotes.

You will be lucky if you catch a Leprechaund (if you are not able to do it...you can buy it in one of the numerous souuvenir shops that there are in the city).

This is only a sample. But I would also like you to "taste" the traditional Irish music on these videos:

  • A very famous song from Ireland, and one that you should learn for having a guinness in a pub...  THE WILD ROVER

  • In Dublin city, next to Graffton Street and in front of the tourist office at St. Andrew's Street you will see a sculpture, Molly Malone. She also has a song.
